Absorption of Four Sources of Foliar Applied Phosphorus by Orange Trees (Citrus sinensis) var. Red Valencia

Abstract

One of the essential nutrients for both plant growth and production is P. This however is facing series of problems related to its availability and absorption by plants in agricultural soils. Therefore, low utilization rate of P by plants results in its loss from soils. The objective of this research was to evaluate the possibility of P foliage absorption in orange plants as one of the viable possibilities of increasing P plant utilization rate and maximizing its efficiency on application to plants. The result of the analysis showed an evidence of P foliage absorption in orange var. Valencia in both application moments with significant differences between treatments (p<0.05). For both application stages, MAP resulted in the only treatment with highest absorption rate. The same treatment, attained high P foliage level up to 24 hours after application in pre-flowering application and seis hours after application for post-flowering application.
