Description and Maintenance of a productive decontamination system for Residual Water Generated by Livestock Activities

The agricultural sector plays a very important role in the economies of developing nations. For example, since 1990 the number of livestock, including poultry, swine and cattle, has been increasing inCosta Rica(FAO 2002). However, the wastes produced by these animals are environmental contaminants when discharged directly into natural bodies of water. For this reason, it is important to treat these residual waters produced by the livestock before they are released back into the environment. One of the most important systems for decontamination of these residual waters is the Productive Decontamination System.

This manual provides information about the description and maintenance of a Productive Decontamination System from treating waste waters from livestock activities. The material is presented in such a way that it can serve as reference manual for those farmers who wish to implement this type of decontamination system.
